The Crisis of Getting an Entry-Level Job
By Founder, ProjKilo
The UK's Office for National Statistics released statistics today that says more than 1 million young people (aged 16 to 24 years) are not in education, employment, or training (NEET). Former UK health secretary Alan Milburn said during an interview with the BBC "This is a generation that is trying. You talk to young people that is putting in dozens, sometimes hundreds of applications for jobs every single month. By the way, they hear nothing back".
Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU, released statistics last April, highlighting that 11% of 15-29-year olds were without a job, education, or training in 2025. The EU population was 451 million on January 2025, which makes ~ 50 million NEET.
Reducing NEET is one of the primary indicators of SDG 8 "Goal 8. Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent
work for all", according to United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD.)
"8.6 By 2020, substantially reduce the proportion of youth
not in employment, education or training".
